John A. Skirius passed away on November 18, 2010 at his home in Los Angeles with his family at his side. Following Dartmouth, John received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1975 and taught Spanish/American literature at UCLA for over 30 years. A former student described John as a gracious and kind man as well as a renowned expert in his field. He spent much of his time in Mexico and wrote books and published essays on many influential Mexican writers and leaders. He was revered among his Mexican colleagues for his great knowledge of their country and culture.
The Reverend Timothy J. Stein, former pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge, died in hospice on July 31st. The cause of death was metastatic pancreatic cancer. He was 74 years old. Tim was born in Chicago and grew up in Willmette, Salt Lake City and Denver.

There has been much written and said about Mike and the common denominator is: he was one helluva guy. Being larger than life, outdoors, and active was a good description of Mike but did not define him.
We sadly note the passing of classmate Thomas Stuver on August 24, 2021. Here is his obituary from the Glenwood Springs Post Independent.
Jon Stuart Swenson ’69 passed away in his sleep at home on January 6, 2015. He was born to Olaf and Grace Swenson in Minneapolis on March 20, 1947. Hockey was his sport, and he continued to play at Dartmouth. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1969. He moved to Portland, Oregon, and was affiliated with KGW, where he had a radio show and made lifelong friends. He then formed a marketing company and made more friends. He married Ann Wilkerson in 1972, and their daughter, Dana, was the light of their lives. Ann and Jon divorced in 1984 and he moved to Seattle.
Edward (Ned) Symes, III (Age 74) passed away at home in Chevy Chase on May 3, 2021 surrounded by his family. The cause was complications from Alzheimer's Disease. He led a life devoted to his family, the communities in which he lived, and the organizations he served.
We are sadded to learn of the passing of classmate Richard 'Rick' Thompson in September of 2022. At this time there is no published obituary, but we will add one if it becomes available. If any classmates have thoughts or memories to share, please let us know.

Veteran journalist Bob Throndsen died unexpectedly at his Edmonds home Saturday, Feb. 4. He was 75 years old.
I met Bob for the first time in late February 2020, just before the COVID pandemic took hold. He expressed an interest in writing for My Edmonds News and I was thrilled to welcome such an experienced journalist to our team.
