Charles A. Fitz-Gerald III passed away December 30, 2015 after a battle with lung cancer. Following his graduation from Dartmouth he joined the U.S. Navy and trained as an aviator in Pensacola, Florida then spent most of his active duty stationed at China Lake, California and felt those years flying in the desert were the most exciting in his life.

After the Navy he received a degree from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management in 1976 and joined Braniff Airlines as a commercial pilot. Most of his career was spent with Northwest Airlines and as a captain he flew Boeing 747’s all over the world. He remained a part of the Naval Reserve flying out of Glenview Naval Air Station and became commanding officer of the squadron.

While at Dartmouth Fitz was a member of Bones Gate, the DOC and Sphinx. As an alumnus he was an admissions volunteer. He is survived by his wife Christine of Glenview, Illinois, and by three children, Claire of Harwich, Massachusetts, Emily (Prozeller) of Mamaroneck, New York and Gus of Wilmette, Illinois. In addition he leaves two siblings.
