On Monday, October 19 at 5 pm Eastern (U.S.) Time, Ian Miller will join us for a Casual Conversation on Zoom during which he will discuss the work of Aided, a non-profit of which he is director, whose mission is to help Ukrainians survive the invasion and end it, and whose website can be found here: https://aided.org .
From Mr. Miller: “Ian Miller earned his Master's in Chemical Engineering at MIT and co-founded the Ukraine aid providers Zero Line and Aided.”
And he provided us the below description of his work. The narrative includes a discussion of the participation of our own Sandy Alderson (whom we can thank for bringing Mr. Miller to us) in helping secure Ukraine’s continued independence as a Nation and its ultimate freedom from the brutality of a dictator whose model is nothing less than the Holodomor Stalin inflicted on the Ukrainian people (and dramatized by the excellent film “Mr Jones”):
“Ukraine has the area and population of Texas and a fraction of the economy. Ukraine has held the line against the world's third largest army -- limiting Russian territorial gains to ~0.1% of Ukraine in 2026 and achieving casualty ratios of under 1 to 4 in 2026 -- due to courage, innovation, and allied support. A key area of innovation in the last 2 years has been unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). In 2024, Ukraine produced ~2000 UGVs. In 2026, the number will exceed 40,000 and UGVs now move more supplies and evacuate more wounded than manned vehicles across Ukraine's front. Ian Miller researches Ukrainian UGV use and delivers non-weapons support to Ukraine's military via aid convoys, as director of the non-profit Aided. This Spring and Summer, Aided visited the UGV command posts and engineering workshops of ~20 battalions and companies, to identify deadly bottlenecks and life-saving solutions within Ukraine's UGV operations. Twice in the past year, Dartmouth alumnus Sandy Alderson volunteered on Aided convoys, drove vehicles and equipment to Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, and observed Ukrainian UGV work up close. You are warmly invited to join Ian and Sandy for a presentation and conversation about aid work in Ukraine, and in particular about how UGVs could provide Ukraine a large lasting life-saving advantage against Russia's invading army.”
To learn more, and you should, you can start Monday next, October 19, at 5 pm Eastern (U.S.) Time. The usual rules: let me know by Friday COB if you plan to attend, emailing me at arthur.fergenson@ansalaw.com .
Let’s hope that some day soon, we can say that Sandy helped yet another team win a great victory.
