On March 29 at 3:00 pm Eastern the ’69 Jewish Culture Group will present its next program entitled “Antisemitism on Campus.” Our discussants are old friends to our class, Prof. Susannah Heschel and Rabbi Seth Linfield. Both have given previous presentations.
Prof. Heschel is the Eli M. Black Distinguished Professor in the Department of Religion and the daughter of the eminent scholar Abraham Joshua Heschel. She has spoken before and guided me in the selection of speakers on various other topics. She is currently doing a sabbatical at Harvard for this academic year and has become expert on the topic of Antisemitism at that vintage institution. That issue is what our current Washington administration chose in attacking the University and to evoke/cancel huge research grants. She and Rabbi Seth have jointly discussed our topic for previous groups. Closer to the Alpert home, she was the supervisor for my youngest son Sean (Dartmouth ’01) when he did an elective in her department. Under her guidance, the paper he and a classmate wrote was selected for national recognition. She has told me she remembers Sean’s outstanding scholarship.
Rabbi Seth is the “hub of Jewish life” on our campus. He serves as the Executive Director of Hillel and the Roth Center. He is a tireless teacher of students and Upper Vallely residents. The attendance for holidays at the Roth Center, like the upcoming Passover Seder, has been amazing, directly reflecting his outgoing personality and personal warmth.
Susannah has recommended that each attendee read an article which she wrote for the journal “Zion.” She has (thank goodness) provided the English translation. That will be sent to all who reply yes to this announcement.
I expect this session to be incredibly informative about two Ivy institutions: stellar Dartmouth with President Beilock taking such an active role when demonstrations occurred on the Green; and that other place founded in 1636, 133 years before Eleazar started our journey.
Please reply to me (bsa2347@gmail) of your interest in receiving the article and the Zoom link from Arthur a few days before the 29th. We look forward to seeing dozens of you on the Zoom!
