Dear Classmates,

Before we review the status and planning of our May 3-5th Boston Mini Reunion, we have two quick questions:

  • If you are interested in attending but haven’t filled out the survey, please use the ‘Reply to Sender’ link to let us know.
  • If you are planning to attend to Red Sox - Orioles game on Wednesday, we need to lock in those seats, so please sent your $38/ticket to Jeff Bloomberg as soon as possible (262 Woodland Road, Chestnut Hill, MA 02167)

Now for an update about the event…

Wednesday, May 3

  •   5:00  Dinner at Island Creek Oyster Bar at 500 Commonwealth Ave.  Great seafood, but the restaurant also serves chicken, steak, pasta dishes; probably can request vegetarian.
  •   7:05  Red Sox - Baltimore Orioles game at Fenway Park (a short walk from the restaurant). This is the activity of highest interest.

Thursday, May 4

  • 10:00  Freedom Trail Walk, guided by an expert in Colonial Boston history.
  • 12:00  Lunch en route at location to be determined.
  • Afternoon  Continue on Freedom Trail walk or Free Time. See below for possible organized alternate activities.
  • 6:30 Dinner at Mother Anna's Ristorante at 211 Hanover Street in Boston's Italian North End.

Friday, May 5

  • 10:00  Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Avenue.  The MFA is a large "encyclopedic" museum.  While folks will be free to explore any departments they wish, there will be guided tours through these galleries - Art of the Americas, Art of Europe (including a touring Matisse Exhibitions) and Contemporary Art.
  • 12:00  Lunch at the MFA
  • Afternoon  Continue on Museum Tour, Free Time, or alternative organized activity (see below)
  • 6:30  Drinks and informal catered dinner at the Cambridge Boat Club, 2 Gerry's Landing, Cambridge.  This private rowing club has a beautiful setting on the Charles River.  For those who know Boston and Cambridge, it is next to the Elliot Bridge, close to Mr. Auburn Hospital and BB&N School - not far from Harvard Square, where there is subway service.  There is parking at CBC.

Classmates are welcome to join us for any or all events.  During free time, or for those who might prefer not to walk the Freedom Trail, or for whom art is no their thing, interest has been expressed in the following alternatives, and we will arrange for smaller groups to tour:

  • Boston Harbor and the Islands by boat
  • Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (site of the infamous 1990 grand art heist).
  • Arnold Arboretum on the Arborway in Jamaica Plain.  Owned by Harvard University and designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, this expansive and beautiful arboretum should be in full Spring bloom.

This Mini-Reunion in Boston is shaping up to be a lot of fun, and we expect attendance to grow. In a future communique, we will try to nail down attendance interest for dinner on Wednesday and activities on Thursday and Friday and offer hotel suggestions for those who need accommodations.  In the meantime, please encourage your '69 Class friends to join us.
