- Tuesday, October 17 at 5 pm Eastern: Professor John Q. Barrett, Professor of Law at St. John’s University in New York and Elizabeth S. Lenna Fellow at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, New York, will speak with us about Supreme Court Associate Justice Robert H. Jackson, who was appointed by FDR and served as FDR’s Attorney General. While on the Supreme Court, Justice Jackson was Chief Counsel for the United States at the Nuremberg trials.
- Sunday, October 29 at 3 pm Eastern: Classmate Bill Stableford has organized a Casual Conversation with three of our colleagues who served in the U.S. military in Vietnam.
- John Lallis served as an artillery officer on an active artillery base.
- Sandy Alderson served as a Marine infantry platoon leader.
- Paul Pillar served as an officer in the Adjutant General corps at a transient depot within Tan Son Nhut air base outside Saigon. The work involved administrative processing of personnel coming into and out of country. He came back on the last plane of the withdrawal following the 1973 peace agreement.
- Sunday, November 5 at 3 pm Eastern: Courtesy of classmate Peter Schaeffer, Gary Ginsberg, attorney, media editor and executive, and writer, will spend with us to discuss his book First Friends: The Powerful, Unsung (And Unelected) People Who Shaped Our Presidents (Twelve/ Hatchette Book Group 2021). Bebe Rebozo or Vernon Jordan? Decide for yourself. I vote for Bernard Baruch.
- Sunday, November 19 at 3 pm Eastern: Pioneering Woman Lynn Lobban, adopted by our Class in 2006 after being left for 37 years in the Dartmouth wilderness, has written a memoir of extraordinary candor, One of the Boys (Palmetto Publishing 2023). She will be our guest and will discuss her life and the men and women in it, including us.
- Sunday, December 3 at 3 pm Eastern: Gregory J. Gbur, Professor of Physics and Optical Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is the author of Falling Felines and Fundamental Physics. His most recent book, praised in the Times Literary Supplement, is Invisibility: The History and Science of How Not to Be Seen (Yale University Press 2023), which combines science with the speculations of science fiction. If you ever longed to be Claude Raines, join us.
- Monday, December 18 at 5 pm Eastern: Julien Gorbach is Assistant Professor in the School of Communications at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and the author of The Notorious Ben Hecht: Iconoclastic Writer and Militant Zionist (Purdue University Press 2019). Professor Gorbach was a newspaper reporter on the police beat. His extraordinary biographical subject wrote, among about 400 screenplays, The Front Page and His Girl Friday. And, of course, Hitchcock’s Notorious. When the American Jewish leaders were told by FDR to be silent about Germany under Hitler, they obeyed, to their everlasting shame. Hecht spoke out, loudly and very publicly. After the war, Britain was in his sights, literally, through the Irgun.
- Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 3 pm Eastern: Courtesy of classmate Ben Romney, Jerry Zaks, Class of 1967, multiple Tony Award winner as director: House of Blue Leaves, Lend Me a Tenor, Six Degrees of Separation, Guys and Dolls (Nathan Lane and Faith Prince). Those classmates who saw the Winter Carnival production of Once Upon a Mattress, and ALL of you did of course, will remember Jerry as the Jester with the solo of “Very Soft Shoes.”
- Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 5 pm Eastern: Courtesy of classmates Bruce Alpert, chair of the Jewish Culture Group, and Tex Talmadge, Rabbi Dennis S. Ross, Intentional Interim Rabbi in the greater NYC area, will talk with us about Martin Buber (“I-Thou”). Rabbi Ross wrote A Year with Marin Buber: Wisdom on the Weekly Torah Portion (Jewish Publication Society 2021).
- Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 5 pm Eastern: Courtesy of classmate Peter Schaeffer, Fred Appelbaum, M.D., Class of 1968, who will speak with us about his book Living Medicine: Don Thomas, Marrow Transplantation, and the Cell Therapy Revolution Hardcover (Mayo Clinic Press 2023).
