Tuck (Maynard R.) Miller died peacefully on October 1, 2016 in Providence, RI at the age of 69. He will continue to be a shining light in the lives of his best friend and wife of 45 years, Ki (Kelly) Miller, and their two children, Jeff and Kim. Tuck took great pride in his family and was a steady source of sage wisdom, encouragement, and love.

Born on June 22nd, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, Tuck spent his growing up years in Wilmington, Delaware. He was a 1969 graduate of Dartmouth College and earned his JD from Georgetown Law Center in 1972. After clerking for Federal Judge George H. Barlow in Trenton, New Jersey, he began a 38-year career as a Health Care Attorney with Reid & Riege, P.C. in Hartford, Connecticut.

Tuck was generous with his time, talent, and treasure, serving on the Board of Directors at Hartford Stage, Duncaster Retirement Community, the Noah Webster House and Connecticut Community Care. He loved music of every sort, and played an instrumental role in creating and shepherding Gifts of Music, a program offering support to young musicians.

Tuck was a loyal fan, and made his presence heard at sporting events, whether cheering his children and grandchildren on from the stands or rooting for his Yankees and NY Giants from afar. He never met a dog or a pizza he didn’t want to bring home.

Tuck taught us to play fair in life, and to tackle challenges head on. He was a consummate problem solver, until befuddled by a disease that shows no mercy and, to date, defies solutions. It was his abiding sense of humor and sense of self and his dedication to the task at hand that served him well as he maneuvered the Alzheimer’s journey.

In addition to Ki, he leaves behind Jeff and Sharon Miller of Smithfield, Virginia and Kim and Zeb Mellett of Barrington, Rhode Island along with his cherished grandchildren: Hagan, Ben, Kelly, Nate, Grant, and Sally. He was blessed to have a supportive network of in-laws: George and Gretchen Kelly, Dennis and Mary Dyer, Margaret and David Zacchei, and John and Angela Kelly. He was predeceased by his parents, Maynard and Alice Miller.

Special thanks to Megan and Mary, at the Atria Bay Spring Village Life Guidance Unit, who nurtured Tuck’s spirit over the last few months and to the compassionate staff at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center who assured us all peace and dignity.

We shall celebrate Tuck’s life at The Pond House, 1555 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT on November 11, 2016 between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution, please consider Gifts of Music, c/o Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT 06106 or The Bridge Family Center, 1022 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06107.
